Corey Melton, (a.k.a. JettFoto) is originally from Hollywood, Florida. He has since brought his photography talents to New York City, where he works as a portrait photographer for actors, dancers, families and children. Corey is a fellow Astorian who also performs work for the New York Post. He has recently been involved in a project called One More Drop which aims to raise awareness and money for the water crisis that affects thousands of people every day. The work has brought him to Haiti and Kenya where he has captured images of the humble and warm hearted locals.
An excerpt from One More Drop:
“…The wonder of Kenya is the hospitality and kindness you receive from everyone you meet. There is such a joy and love there that it makes your soul thirsty for more. More of their culture, their landscape, the language and the way they worship. But once I got to know the people better I found that underneath all of this joy there is immense pain and suffering and loss. Some of the stories of the men and what they’ve been through in life are astounding. The strength of these people left such an impression on me. Call it desensitization, call it ignorance of a better life, but regardless of how one tries to justify the way they deal with death, poverty, and victimization it is their incredible Godly strength that carries them through day after day…”
I should also mention I’m partial to Corey’s work because he is a Nikon shooter like myself. I really try not to be a fanboy but with all the quality work that comes out of Canon camps, its great to see professional Nikon equipment producing this level of imagery. Of course it’s also the photographer who makes the magic happen. Head on over to Flickr and check out Corey’s ‘stream. And don’t forget to stop by One More Drop and read about the progress that’s been made to secure potable water for people around the world.
