Trigger Finger is a series of posts dedicated to the impulsive and instinctive cell phone photography that we’ve all developed over the years. For the times when you don’t have your best camera on you, but the moment is still worth capturing.
There’s a new construction site in town. Typically, large scale construction and renovation projects are shielded from the public with large, blue plywood barriers. Sometimes, the contractors will cut crude holes in the plywood to give pedestrians a glimpse into the building progress. This is not quite the case here.
The blue plywood surrounding the construction at 6th ave and 43rd street has been carefully embellished with some decals and 3’x3′ concentric squares. I noticed the squares had peep holes installed in the center, and so I approached, thinking I would get to see a freshly poured building foundation, as well as some early erected steel. To my surprise I found pretty pictures in each hole with a website link at the bottom. The ICP or International Center of Photography is undergoing an extensive renovation for their school. Their new Grace Plaza is set to open its doors later this year, but in the meantime the ICP is giving us a “peep” at something else. Each hole showcases the photography of an ICP alumnus in an almost diorama-like enclosure. One of my favorites is the photo “Steam” by Liz Sales.
If you work in the area, take a walk by the site on your lunch break and have your own look through the peep holes! =)
