Happy New Year to us all. Its been a nice holiday season, but I’m sure we’re all itching to get back to work now and make something wonderful happen. Some brief advise for those of you with resolutions, goals and virtues:

Although your ambition is healthy, your goals may seem daunting and unattainable. Its best to take things one at a time and separate tasks. If, for instance, your goal for 2011 is to rebuild your dad’s old Camaro, start with the body work. Tell yourself you’re going to get it done by April, and stick to your schedule. Then work on the electrical and give yourself a similarly proportioned deadline. Its ok to fall a little behind along the way. If you shoot for an A, you may get a B+ or A-, but if you don’t shoot at all, you fail.

If you’re working on a new diet and/or exercise plan, stick with it. Most people get lazy or discouraged around week 2-3. This is the make-or-break time that will determine what you’re made of. If you can get over that hump, the rest gets infinitely easier and actually enjoyable. I promise. The same goes for any hard work with worthwhile benefits. Exercise and eating better is perhaps the most important goal you should focus on. Everything else tends to fall into place. I’ll leave you all with an ancient Greek proverb:

“Νους υγιής εν σώματι υγιεί”

“The mind is healthy when the body is healthy”
